You don’t have to fall apart to seek support. Often, the early signs that you’re not okay can be easy to overlook, especially when life is busy and you’re used to pushing through.
If you’ve noticed any of the following, it might be worth checking in with someone (e.g. counsellor or mental health professional):
1. You’re more irritable than usual
Snappy replies. Low tolerance. The small things get to you, and you’re not sure why.
2. Your sleep patterns have changed
You’re sleeping too much or struggling to fall asleep at all. Maybe you’re waking up wired, even when your body’s exhausted.
3. You’ve become more verbally aggressive
You find yourself raising your voice, being blunt, or saying things you regret. It’s not your usual way, but it keeps happening.
4. You feel overwhelmed by everyday tasks
Even basic to-dos feel like too much. Hard to focus.
You start things but can’t seem to finish them, or your brain shuts down before you start.
5. You’re stuck in loops of distraction
More scrolling. More snacking. More drinking or gaming.
If any of these sound familiar, you’re not alone. These are common responses to stress, burnout, or emotional overload. Counselling can help you understand what’s behind the pressure and find better ways to support yourself.
You don’t need to wait for things to get worse. Reaching out could be the first step to feeling like yourself again.
